Online Therapy in Florida

The Sunshine State, home to stunning beaches and a vibrant multicultural mix is renowned for its natural beauty and warm climate. However, like other states, Florida is not immune to mental health challenges faced by its residents. Thankfully, a new frontier has emerged in mental healthcare, offering help to those who need it, regardless of where they are located. At Neurofeedback & Counseling Center of PA, we are proud to extend our online counseling services to the good people of Florida, ensuring that quality mental health support is accessible, even from the comfort of your home.

Mental Health Statistics in Florida

Millions of Americans suffer from mental illness and the state of Florida is not an exception.  According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year with a shocking 2,889,000 adults in Florida alone struggling with a mental health condition.

Unfortunately, the situation only gets worse, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic, in which over half of Americans report a negative impact on their mental well-being. Disturbingly, in February 2021, 40.8% of adults in Florida showed symptoms of anxiety or depression, and a significant portion—24.8%—could not access the counseling or therapy they needed. Obtaining adequate mental health support is obviously a struggle as more than half of individuals with mental health conditions across the U.S. did not receive any treatment in the past year.

In Florida, 796,000 adults went without the necessary mental health care, with cost being the primary barrier for 49.7% of them. Additionally, 13.1% of Floridians lack insurance coverage, limiting their access to essential services. The unreasonable difficulty faced by Floridians in securing in-network mental health care providers is equally a concern. They are over five times more likely to be forced out-of-network for mental health care than primary health care, leading to increased expenses from their pockets and a heightened challenge in finding appropriate care.

Approximately 6,387,811 people in Florida reside in communities that lack sufficient mental health professionals, magnifying the accessibility problem. The impact of mental illness on the youth is equally distressing, with 1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experiencing a mental health disorder each year.

Among this group, 180,000 young Floridians aged 12-17 suffer from depression. Alarming statistics show that high school students battling depression are more than twice as likely to drop out compared to their peers. Shockingly, 64.2% of Floridians in this age group with depression did not receive any kind of care in the previous year.

Lastly, the reality of suicide must not be overlooked. In the U.S., on average, one person dies by suicide every 11 minutes. In just Florida alone, 3,567 lives were tragically lost to suicide, and a staggering 610,000 adults experienced suicidal thoughts in the past year.

While it may seem as though the situation cannot be remedied, there is a ray of hope in the form of virtual therapy. With technological advancements, virtual therapy has emerged as a valuable resource, offering accessible and convenient mental health support to those who need it. By leveraging this innovative approach, more individuals in Florida and across the nation can access the care they require, helping to address the mental health crisis on a larger scale.
