What does therapy do for YOU?

Written by: Amanda Levison, M.S., LMHC, LPC, CCBT

Life today is hectic, overwhelming, and leads to anxiety and depression for many. Talk therapy can have an unbelievably constructive impact on your life. It can shift the way you function as an individual and allow you to evolve into the best you. Talk therapy is not a speedy solution, but it will give you exceptional skills and tools for coping and learning to deal with life situations that are often overwhelming. Certain things help you on your journey, everyone’s journey is individual, but some things make sense to do. Use the talk therapy as a means of learning about yourself and the person you don’t want to be, as well as the person you strive to be. In doing so, you will need to practice some things to help you with the things you are learning.

  1. Practicing self-care and self-love is a must.

  2. Make wise choices and take responsibility for the decisions you make.

  3. Know that you are courageous enough and have the strength to get through this time.

  4. Put forth limits and boundaries for yourself and with others.

  5. Make a list of reasons you are down-right amazing.

  6. Get up, get out, and move. Exercise is key!

  7. Write your story, keep a journal, or creatively document this journey.

  8. When you are angry, put it to use.

  9. Do not lie to yourself.

  10. Sleep… get GOOD sound sleep.
